A Study on 86Rb Uptake of Erythrocyte in Skin Malignant Neoplasm and Lung Cancer

Abstract
The uptake study of radioactive rubidium (86Rb) in the erythrocyte of various materials was done in vitro.
The materials consisted of 20 normal male volunteers, 20 skin diseases. 17 lung cancers, 36 skin
malignant neoplasms and 26 skin cancers 6.000 rads of Co60 irradiation.
The blood samples from these materials were mixed with 86Rb and after the mixed solution was
filtered through amblerlite ion exchange column, the erythrocyte was separated from the plasma. The uptake of 86Rb in the erythrocyte was calculated with well-type scintilation counter. The followings were the results:
1. When normal group was compared with the skin malignant neoplasm group, a highly significant difference was observed in the 86Rb uptake.
2. When skin diseases group was compared with the skin malignant neoplasm group, a highly significant difference was observed in the 86Rb uptake.
3. When normal group was compared with lung cancer group, a highly significant difference was observed in the 86Rb uptake.
4. There was no significant difference of 86Rb uptake in the erythrocyte between normal group and skin disease group and post irradiated skin cancer group.
This study suggests that the 86Rb uptakes in erythrocyte is applicable to diagnosis and prognosis of skin malignant neoplasm.
